OUR PURPOSE:
- To establish the Church of Christ in our community, according to the New Testament standards, established by Christ himself and by his apostles;
- To exalt Jesus Christ above all party political or sectarian loyalty;
- To preserve the unity of all Christians, the Church that Jesus Christ edified, about which he declared that it would never be destroyed (Mathew 16:18);
- To carry out the Great Commission of making disciples of Jesus in every nation, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
FOR THAT PURPOSE:
- We accept and maintain the Bible as the only rule of faith and of practice for the Church of Christ (1 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible is true, since it is inspired by God, and every sensible man can understand it;
- We believe that Jesus Christ is the only creed prescribed in the Bible for us to accept (Mathew 16:16; Acts 4:12; 1 Corinthians 2:2; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrew 13:8);
- We are ready to receive advice and we encourage everyone’s critical scrutiny. If anyone can show that we are not proclaiming what God has commanded, we are ready to correct for our mistake;
- We make an effort to use only biblical terms when applying them to biblical ideas. Words stand for specific ideas; therefore, in order to pass on biblical thoughts with the utmost accuracy, we must use the same words as used in the Scriptures (1 Peter 4:11). That is the reason why we call ourselves Christians (1 Peter 4:16) and the reason why we accept the biblical name for the church.
- We preach only the biblical doctrine. The Bible is clear and explicit to what concerns salvation. That is what we preach and defend (Jude 3). For the same reason, we oppose ourselves to every attempt of substituting the biblical truth by any human innovation, whether in practice or in theory (Mathew 15:19; 1 Corinthians 4:6; Galatians 1:6-8).
- We pray on all occasions, like the Scriptures teach us (Luke 18:1-8; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; 1 Timothy 2:8; Colossians 4:2).
- We practice exclusively the commandments of Jesus Christ:
1) Baptism of the newly repented believer (Mathew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:1-4);
2) The Lord’s Holy Supper as a weekly meeting of the church with Jesus Christ (Mathew 26:26-28; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17; Acts 20:7);
- The local church is maintained through tithes and offerings, both voluntary (Malachi 3:8-10; 1 Corinthians 9:6-10; 1 Corinthians 16:2; Galatians 6:8; Acts 20:35; Luke 6:38; Mathew 23:23);
- We practice the universal priesthood of all believers, making every believer responsible for preaching the Gospel and for the progress of the church’s work (Mathew 23:8; 1 Peter 2:9);
- In our way of governing the local church, we are congregational and independent.
